Coldheart Canyon – Released (BGE and DrivethruRPG)

Coldheart Canyon – Released (DrivethruRPG and BGE)

Coldheart Canyon, by Silvia Clemente, is a Weird West old-school scenario, heavily inspired by John Carpenter’s “not western westerns”, especially Ghosts of Mars; any similarity is not a coincidence but a homage! The adventure is meant to be played as a one-shot, taking place over a single night, from dusk to dawn.

The party arrives at a small forsaken town in the desert; they are beaten from the arduous voyage and in need of some respite, but what they find is a ghost town. Dudleytown appears empty, at first, it seems like everybody has just vanished. Slowly the horrifying truth starts to be revealed. In the canyon, nearby miners have awakened an ancient alien force that ravenously spread across town. There will be no rest tonight!

Wretched Space 1.4 (expanded) Available for Download

As previously mentioned, instead of publishing a setting sourcebook for Wretched Space, we decided to do the same as in Bastards: introducing setting information in each scenario. But there’s some basic info needed, so that’s where Wretched Space 1.4 comes in: it has 70 more pages with more creatures, planets and plot hooks, a more detailed description of the Galactic Federation, new factions, major characters and suggestions to use the Beyond in a space opera game. And don’t feel cheated if you have previously purchased it in print: in case you decide to get a copy of the expanded version, we will send you a special discount, so you’ll pay only for printing costs. But, for now, 1.4 it’s just in digital format; we still have some proofreading to do before committing to print.

The Red Room’s Work Recognized at Rolisboa 2022

Tomorrow The Red Room will be celebrating its first six months of existence as a publisher. It has been one hell of a (short) ride, with plenty of published work. Yesterday we were at the Lisbon gaming convention Rolisboa 2022 to receive this year’s Hartvig Award, which recognizes the work of Portuguese tabletop gaming creators (for which Miguel Ribeiro was nominated last year, at the time as a freelance author publishing through James Desborough’s Postmortem Studios).
Here’s a video (in Portuguese); we show at about 06:40:00

In the Mouth of Hell – Released

In the Mouth of Hell – Released (DrivethruRPG and BGE, Lulu coming later)
A scenario for Wretched Époque or other investigative horror games set in the Belle Époque. It can also be easily adapted to fit other Wretchedverse games, such as Wretched Country, Wretchploitation and Wretched New Flesh.
On the night of December 8th 1901, British occultist Ambrose Fanshaw was murdered by a Portuguese friend, poet and student of occult lore, Artur Corvelo, while staying in Portugal. Fanshaw was thrown off Boca do Inferno (Mouth of Hell), a steep cliff near Cascais, by his associate Corvelo.
Teodoro Albergaria, the lighthouse keeper of the nearby Santa Marta phare, witnessed the murder and testified in court. Even though Fanshaw’s body wasn’t found, Corvelo was trialled, convicted of murder and jailed. However, the poet mysteriously vanished from prison two months after being sentenced. The police are flabbergasted by the scholar’s vanishing act. But the real story is a little more convoluted than that…

Announcement About Wretched Space

I’ve been working on a setting for our most recent game release, Wretched Space. Initially, it was meant to be a standalone release, but since the setting I am developing was already hinted at in the core book, I’ve decided that it would make more sense to release an expanded edition of Wretched Space, including more information about a specific fictional universe. So, if you have purchased the core book, you will receive the expanded edition for free. If you bought the book on Lulu, I will send you the pdf for the extended version if you ask me. That way, you can take a look at it and decide if the extended version is worth buying a new print-on-demand book. The extended version will also be available as an item on our catalogue for new customers.

Red Room Flash Sale: Wretched Giallo Trilogy 50% Off

Drivethru’s Halloween Sale is going on, but here at the Red Room, we would like to offer you an even better deal for the Wretched Giallo Trilogy: The Sisters of the Seven Sins, The Memorial and Orpheum Lofts. Just for today, the three scenarios can be purchased at a 50% discount:

Orpheum Lofts: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?discount=9edd116e53

The Memorial: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?discount=9edf583993

The Sisters of the Seven Sins: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?discount=9eddfad90d

The Sisters of the Sevens Sins:
This horror scenario takes place in a Portuguese convent with a dark history of demonic possession, black magic, and Devil worships that, in the mid-1970s, is occupied by a recently founded unusual religious congregation made up of disgraced women who wish to atone for their past, the Reprobate Sisters of the Seven Sins. Players can take the role of nuns, Vatican authorities sent to investigate reports of demoniacal manifestations, reporters interested in exploring the story behind this atypical catholic sisterhood or even criminals working on a devious plan to restore a sinister painting to the convent where it originally belonged.

In this scenario, you will find a summary description of the fictional Convent of Saint Mary Magdalene, located in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, followed by some information about the country during the late 1970s and various detailed characters. This assumes you will run it in Wretchploitation or other modern horror games. But if you’d rather play it as a Wretched Époque scenario, there are notes for adapting each player and non-player character to the Belle Époque and more plot hooks and details about Lisbon in the late 19th century.

The Memorial
The Memorial is a contemporary horror scenario inspired by Lars Von Trier’s cult TV series Riget (1994), Milos Forman’s One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975) and The Killer Nun (1979), an Italian “video nasty” classic starring Anita Eckberg and Alida Valli. There’s undoubtedly some Green Wing, ER, House M.D. and Scrubs in it, hopefully not that much, as it is meant to be horror, after all.

The Memorial was previously published by Postmortem Studios, part of the Postmortem Giallo series. The new Wretched Memorial is meant to be run using Wretchploitation, an old-school game which emulates the exploitation movie genre and it also includes a few plot hooks meant for Wretched Époque. Nevertheless, you will find it easily adapted it to most contemporary horror role-playing games.

The scenario takes place in a rundown old hospital,The Ernest Spencer Memorial, especially in its psychiatric ward. This surreal institution is populated by bizarre people with a troubled past and where strange things occur frequently. Part of those occurrences is of supernatural origin, but some of them are illegal experiments and common medical malpractice

Orpheum Lofts

Orpheum Lofts is a thriller/ horror role-playing scenario inspired by Dario Argento’s Three Mothers Trilogy [Suspiria (1977), Inferno (1980) and Mother of Tears (2007)], Polanski’s The Tenant (1976) and Rosemary’s Baby (1968), ’80s and ’90s sitcoms, and romantic comedies. Yes, it’s a strange mix, but it will get weirder… As usual in Red Room adventures, there is no predetermined plot, only suggested ones, and no described scenes; instead, there are many story seeds. Though it was planned for a series of connected stories set in the mid-80s, Orpheum Lofts can easily be turned into a one-shot. The timeline isn’t set in stone either.
