DARKER updated

The updated DARKER is now live at the Red Room store. Mark Brooks aka OSRDwarf, added substantial new content – enough to earn a co-authorship credit – alongside an introductory comic by Kris Villarose, minor rules tweaks, and fresh AI-generated illustrations. If you bought it from our store, grab the updated digital version now. For those with a Lulu print-on-demand copy, the core rules remain unchanged, but contact us for a free digital copy to access the enhanced content. The hardcover and paperback versions at Luludotcom will soon be updated too.

Red is now free (and updated to 1.4)

We’ve launched the new MicroRed games, and to mark the occasion, the Red core book is now free. The MicroRed games include a concise rule summary, so you likely won’t need the full book—but it’s there if you want it. Also, Red just hit version 1.4 with a few updates. Go grab it!

Orbital Decay (MicroRed version) now available

The MicroRed version of Orbital Decay is now available at Red Room store, and it’s a free download for those who purchased the Wretched version of Orbital Decay. This is a hard sci-fi role-playing game, where player characters live in a world of ambition, desperation, and moral decay, where humanity claws its way beyond Earth to build orbital stations and colonies across the solar system. Inspired by movies like Alien, Outland, and Event Horizon.

Novanexus MicroRed version now available

Novanexus (Micro Red Edition) is now available at the Red Room store and it is a FREE download for those who purchased the Wretched version. The new Novanexus is a full-game with summarised Red rules and the full setting. The game is set in a retro-futuristic French metropolis where a mysterious phenomenon called the Glitch threatens to unravel the city’s fragile balance. Heavily inspired by Jacques Tati’s Playtime (1967) and Trafic (1971), Novanexus combines gritty sci-fi with melancholic nostalgia.

Belle Époque opens the MicroRed season

Belle Époque, a streamlined take on Wretched Époque—stripping out the Wretched factions and the Beyond—hits next. It uses MicroRed, a distilled version of Red rules. MicroRed books aim for 100 pages, but this one will be slightly over it, packed with public domain art from the era. If AI art bothers you but you’re reasonable enough not to hate us for it, rest easy: this book sticks to public domain and stock images. Free for anyone who bought Wretched Époque Second Edition.

Introducing MicroRed

Our next project it to re-release some of the Wretched settings using a streamlined version of the Red rules, dubbed MicroRed, paired with condensed adaptations of the original settings. Each book will target around 100 pages, illustrated exclusively with stock art and public domain images (no virtue signalling here—AI art will still be used for our larger Red and Wretched titles, but these compact volumes need less fillers, allowing us to skip on AI). These new titles will be free downloads for those who purchased the original Wretched settings.

The Year of the Cockroach

The Red Room celebrates its third year this month. For two of those years, the monopolistic DriveThruRPG barred us from their virtual shelves. Shunned by the woke crowd, we’ve been denied reviews or promotion on mainstream YouTube channels. Even the smaller ones, once allies to the fringe, now chase the latest fad. Yet, like cockroaches, we endure. To mark this anniversary, we’re slashing prices by 30% on all Wretched and Red titles at The Red Room store. Use the code redroom3 at checkout on our site to claim it.
