As of today, the Wretched line is no longer available through the Red Room. Most of the titles, including the two core books and most of the Wretched settings, will become part of the Precis Intermedia catalog. The books will return after Brett Bernstein has updated them, so they will not be available from Precis immediately.
Why this decision? The Wretched books needed updates, which we had already planned and begun. Wretched and Expanded Wretched had already been revised, and work on Wretched Space was close to complete. But the whole line would require considerable time and an investment in commissioned artwork to replace the original AI illustrations. We have been unable to expand our audience enough to justify that expense through the few additional sales we could expect. And the work on new Red titles must continue and takes precedence.
The move to Precis Intermedia will introduce the games to a new audience and give the project a better chance of success.
If you purchased these titles through the former Red Room store or itch, you will still have access to your files through your account’s downloads section.
There are a few exceptions. Wretched Armageddon and Vice: Sandcove Under Fire will remain with the Red Room, as we are currently converting them from Wretched settings into standalone Red games. The existing Wretched scenarios will also stay with us and will eventually receive Red stats.
Many of our other products will continue to include Wretched stats. The connection between the Red Room and Wretched will continue, and we will promote the forthcoming Wretched releases from Precis Intermedia.
