Full description
This is the first issue of Red Alerts, arriving now as the Red Room recently celebrated its fourth year. We built the Red Room on a simple idea: to create the kind of dark, uncompromising games we wanted to play ourselves. Over those four years, we have remained true to that idea. Now we open Red Alerts for two clear reasons. First, we want to reach those who have never seen our work and give them a direct look at the games we produce. Second, we want to gather like-minded creators who share our tastes and give them a regular place to work alongside us. We have published other people’s games, scenarios, and sourcebooks since the very beginning, but those opportunities were rare. The magazine will, we hope, correct that. It creates a new outlet where anyone may submit articles, fiction, adventures written outside our own systems, reviews, or interviews. If you have work you wish to share, send it in. The door is open. We will release each new issue once we collect enough material to fill its pages and follow no set schedule.
Length: 82 pages (Lulu print edition).

Wretched Verses Issue 12: Alternative Magic Rules

For those seeking an even more “realistic” and less powerful magic system than the standard Wretched rules, these alternative conjurer rituals provide a further departure from its Vancian roots. These rules also appear in Wretched Époque Second Edition and Wretched Darkness Second Edition.*
Full description
In the Wretchedverse, true magic stems from the dark dimension known as the Beyond. All schools of magic, from necromancy to technomancy, ultimately channel otherworldly energies. Rituals provide the means for conjurers to harness these forces without instantly succumbing to annihilation or corruption. Whether forged through esoteric study, innate talent, or direct bargaining with entities, the methods vary. Yet some fundamentals remain consistent. The weaving of preternatural effects requires focus, symbolic power, and strength of will. Most rituals demand certain instruments to structure magical energies. The required tools reflect the conjurer’s style. Cybermancers integrate technology such as circuits, processors, and liquid crystal displays in their ceremonies. Urbanomancers employ graffiti, architectural plans, and photographs of cityscapes. Classical ritualists rely on candles, daggers, amulets, wands, and tomes bound in exotic materials. The use of blood, sexual fluids, ashes of the dead, psychoactive compounds, consecrated relics, or ancient bones
also serve to amplify effects.

Wretched Verses Issue 8: Life on the Edge, A Journey Through the Borderline

The pinnacle of anguish, where existence for many is a barren, winding path of dust. The Borderline is a realm teeming with an elusive energy that can contort and deceive its inhabitants without their knowledge. The corruption you sense is deeply internal, manifesting in subtle physical transformations that often go unnoticed. As you traverse this domain, you’ll encounter bizarre sights, but the true horror lies within the tumultuous inner beasts residing in those who dwell along the Borderline. A torrential dance of energies emanates from two intertwined souls: Verkin and its enigmatic counterpart, Ershey. These entities embody a tempest of wrongs, a maelstrom of darkness.
This energy holds no meaning for some, and they remain oblivious to its extraordinary power. Yet the Borderline, once ventured into, has the potential to irrevocably alter you, granting rewards or exacting terrible costs. Your fate hinges on how you navigate the trials concealed within this boundless desert, replete with shadowy enclaves, caverns, and mysteries. This guide offers insight into this desolate expanse. You will discover its settlements and denizens, most of whom regard outsiders with distrust and hostility.
Available only in the Wretched Verses Bundle, which contains all 26 issues.
Wretched Verses Issue 7: Sins and Virtues

To provide players and game masters with a dynamic and nuanced approach to character alignment, we present the Sins and Virtues Alignment System, based on the Wretched Transgression mechanics. This system offers a different perspective on character motivations, going beyond the traditional good versus evil, chaos versus order dichotomies. Naturally, the Sins and Virtues can also be combined with a traditional alignment system.*
Full description
Sins and Virtues as alignment revolve around the concept of Seven Deadly Sins and the Seven Holy Virtues, which represent the moral compass guiding each character’s actions and decisions. By selecting one Sin and one Virtue for their character, players are encouraged to explore the complexities of human nature and develop a more three-dimensional persona for their character. This alignment system intends to enrich role-playing by adding depth and consequences to the character’s choices, fostering engaging storytelling, and inspiring creative outcomes. As characters embrace their chosen Sin or Virtue, they must deal with the inherent boons and banes associated with their alignment. This duality reflects the reality that both positive and negative traits can lead to compelling narratives, and even the most virtuous characters may face challenges stemming from their moral compass.

As slaves, they have no choice but to fight and entertain for the pleasure of their wealthy Roman masters. As tensions between the slaves and their lanista, Gaius, simmer and eventually boil over, the players will find themselves caught in the middle of a rebellion that could change the course of history. They will need to navigate a world of political intrigue, backstabbing, and cutthroat combat in order to survive and achieve their freedom.*
Length: 48 pages.

Wretched Verses Issue 2: The Den

Opium dens, once prevalent across the globe, embody the distinction between drug use and abuse. These establishments were deeply woven into the fabric of the Belle Époque, with opium’s widespread acceptance and romanticization particularly resonating among poets and artists.
Full description
Drawing inspiration from various literary works, The Den takes you on a journey through the world of opium, delving into the complexities of drug use and abuse. Among the key influences are Thomas de Quincey’s mesmerizing Confessions of an English Opium Eater (1822, revised 1851/52) and William Burroughs’ compelling Junkie and The Yage Diaries, a fascinating correspondence between Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg. To enrich your understanding, we also recommend R.D. Laing’s The Divided Self: An Existential Study in Sanity and Madness, Graham Hancock’s Supernatural: Meetings with the Ancient Teachers of Mankind, Rick Strassman’s DMT: The Spirit Molecule: A Doctor’s Revolutionary Research into the Biology of Near-Death and Mystical Experiences, Robert Tindall’s The Jaguar that Roams the Mind: An Amazonian Plant Spirit Odyssey, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s timeless classic the Sherlock Holmes series.

Avalidad is a large district inside Tangiers, Morocco, sponsored by an international conglomerate of several corporations interested in investing in northern Africa. The futuristic metropolis was built from scratch during the late 1950s and early 1960s. In the early days of Avalidad, the City was divided into subzones, each managed by a different corporation. As Avalidad grew and expanded, the need for the corporate districts faded away, and they were repurposed into laboratories, offices, warehouses, and residential areas for their respective businesses. Nowadays, the City is organised around its central business district, the neurological center of Avalidad.
